Two bottles, 30 ml each: rosemary, the oil most associated with hair-care routines, and bergamot, the bright citrus behind the smell of Earl Grey tea. Rosemary is steam-distilled from the leaves in India; bergamot is cold-pressed from the fresh peel of the fruit. Both undiluted, in separate bottles.

What’s in this set

Oil Botanical name Extraction Plant part Origin Size
Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis Steam distilled Leaves India 30 ml
Bergamot Citrus bergamia Cold pressed Fresh peel of fruit India 30 ml

The scalp one and the bright one

  • Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) — The reason most people buy a hair set. Herbaceous and sharp — traditionally massaged into the scalp in a carrier oil as part of a weekly hair-care routine.
  • Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) — Cold-pressed from the fresh peel: bright citrus with a soft floral edge, and the scent that flavours Earl Grey tea. Traditionally used in uplifting diffuser blends. Cold-pressed bergamot is strongly photosensitising — keep it off skin that will see sunlight.

How to use

Scalp oil. 2–3 drops of rosemary per 10 ml of jojoba or coconut oil. Massage in, leave 30–60 minutes, shampoo out. Twice a week.

Diffuser. 4 drops bergamot to 2 drops rosemary in the water tank — the brighter, more awake end of the shelf.

Into shampoo. 8–10 drops of rosemary into a 200 ml bottle of unscented shampoo, shaken well before every wash.

Bergamot on skin. 1% in a carrier oil — 2 drops per 10 ml — and only in the evening or under clothing. Cold-pressed bergamot is photosensitising, so allow 12 hours before sun exposure on any skin you have applied it to.

Safety & storage

  • Patch test on the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before wider use.
  • Not to be taken internally. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. Consult a doctor if pregnant, nursing or under medical care.
  • Store upright in the closed amber bottle, away from sunlight and heat. Flammable — keep away from open flame.

Frequently asked questions

Does rosemary oil actually work for hair?

It has a long traditional history in scalp care and is one of the most-used oils in the category. We do not make medical or regrowth claims for it — if you are dealing with significant hair loss, that is a conversation for a dermatologist.

Do I need to dilute rosemary oil before putting it on my scalp?

Yes. Essential oils are concentrates, not hair oils. Mix 2–3 drops per 10 ml of a carrier such as jojoba, coconut or almond oil — roughly a 1–2% dilution — and massage that into the scalp.

Why does bergamot need to be kept out of sunlight?

Cold-pressed citrus peel oils, bergamot most of all, are photosensitising: skin that has had them applied and is then exposed to sun can burn or mark. Use bergamot in a diffuser, or keep it to 1% in the evening on skin that stays covered.

How often should I use the scalp oil?

Most people settle on twice a week. Massage in, leave for 30–60 minutes or overnight on a towel, then shampoo out.

Can I add these to my regular hair oil bottle?

That is the easiest way to use them. Add 10–15 drops of rosemary to a 100 ml bottle of your usual carrier oil, shake, and use as normal. Leave the bergamot out of anything that stays on you in daylight.

How do I patch test?

Put a diluted drop on the inside of your forearm, leave it 24 hours, and check for redness or itching before using it more widely.
