Four 15 ml bottles for the change of season: eucalyptus and peppermint for steam, cedarwood to ground the blend, and turmeric — the distilled root oil, not the kitchen powder — for the Ayurvedic end of the shelf. Steam-distilled and hydro-distilled, undiluted, four separate bottles.

What’s in this set

Oil Botanical name Extraction Plant part Size
Himalayan Cedarwood Cedrus deodara Hydro distilled Wood 15 ml
Peppermint Mentha piperita Steam distilled Leaves 15 ml
Eucalyptus Eucalyptus globulus Steam distilled Leaves 15 ml
Turmeric Curcuma longa Steam distilled Roots 15 ml

What each one is for

  • Himalayan Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara) — Warm, dry and woody. The traditional partner to rosemary in scalp oils, and a grounding base note that stops a floral blend smelling thin.
  • Peppermint (Mentha piperita) — Cooling, bright and unmistakable. Traditionally used in steam and, heavily diluted, in temple and neck massage oils.
  • Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) — The steam-bowl classic. A familiar, clearing aroma that Indian households have leaned on through every change of season.
  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa) — Warm, earthy and rooted in Ayurveda — the distilled oil of the root, not the kitchen powder. Used aromatically and in well-diluted skin oils. It can stain, so dilute and patch test.

How to use

Steam. 1–2 drops of eucalyptus, or one each of eucalyptus and peppermint, in a bowl of hot — not boiling — water. Towel over the head, eyes closed, a few minutes at a time.

Room diffuser. 3 drops eucalyptus with 2 drops cedarwood, run 30–60 minutes.

Massage blend. Turmeric at 1% in sesame or coconut oil. It can stain, so patch test and keep it dilute.

Dilution guide

Use Dilution Drops per 10 ml carrier oil
Face, sensitive skin, children over 6 1% 2 drops

Targeted use on a small area 3% 6 drops
Diffuser (100–300 ml tank) 5–8 drops in water

Safety & storage

  • Never apply undiluted essential oil to skin. Dilute in a carrier oil first.
  • Patch test on the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before wider use.
  • Not to be taken internally. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. Consult a doctor if pregnant, nursing or under medical care.
  • Store upright in the closed amber bottle, away from sunlight and heat. Flammable — keep away from open flame.

Frequently asked questions

Which two do most people actually use?

Eucalyptus and peppermint, in steam. Cedarwood and turmeric are the ones that make this a year-round set rather than a seasonal one.

How do I use these for steam?

1–2 drops in a bowl of hot — not boiling — water. Drape a towel over your head, keep your eyes closed, and breathe for a few minutes. More drops is not better; the vapour is strong.

Eucalyptus or peppermint?

They do different things to the same steam. Eucalyptus is the broad, camphorous one; peppermint is sharper and cooler because of its menthol. Together they are the traditional pairing.

Can children use these?

Peppermint and eucalyptus are generally not recommended for children under six, and never near the face of an infant. Diffuse in the room instead of using direct steam, and check with your paediatrician.

Can I put a drop in my nose or take it internally?

No. Essential oils are never to be taken internally or applied inside the nose.

Can I add them to a hot shower?

Yes — a couple of drops on the shower floor away from the direct stream gives you a gentler version of the same steam.
