Two 15 ml bottles for the end of the day: lavender, the most-used oil in evening routines anywhere in the world, and ylang ylang, the heady tropical floral that gives it depth and makes the scent last. Both steam-distilled and undiluted, supplied as separate bottles so you can find your own ratio — most people settle around three parts lavender to one ylang ylang.

What’s in this set

Oil Botanical name Extraction Plant part Size
Lavender Lavandula angustifolia Steam distilled Flowering tops 15 ml
Ylang Ylang Cananga odorata Steam distilled Flowers 15 ml

Why lavender and ylang ylang

  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — The all-rounder of any collection. Soft, floral and familiar — traditionally used to wind down in the evening, and the one oil most people reach for first in a diffuser.
  • Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) — A heady, sweet tropical floral. Traditionally used in hair and skin oils across South and South-East Asia, and as a relaxing evening aroma. A little goes a long way.

How to use

Bedtime diffuser. 4 drops lavender and 1 drop ylang ylang, half an hour before bed. Run it 30–60 minutes rather than all night.

Pillow. One drop on a tissue or cotton pad tucked into the pillowcase — not on the fabric itself.

Wrists and neck. 1–2% in a carrier oil, applied after a shower.

Bath. 4–5 drops stirred into a tablespoon of milk or bath salts before adding to the water.

Dilution guide

Use Dilution Drops per 10 ml carrier oil
Face, sensitive skin, children over 6 1% 2 drops
Body, daily massage 2% 4 drops
Targeted use on a small area 3% 6 drops
Diffuser (100–300 ml tank) 5–8 drops in water

Safety & storage

  • Never apply undiluted essential oil to skin. Dilute in a carrier oil first.
  • Patch test on the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before wider use.
  • Not to be taken internally. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets. Consult a doctor if pregnant, nursing or under medical care.
  • Store upright in the closed amber bottle, away from sunlight and heat. Flammable — keep away from open flame.

Frequently asked questions

How much ylang ylang is too much?

More than a quarter of the blend and it takes over. One drop to every three or four of lavender is where most people land.

How do I use lavender for sleep?

The three usual ways: 4–6 drops in a diffuser half an hour before bed, a drop or two on a tissue tucked into the pillowcase, or diluted to 1–2% in a carrier oil rubbed into the wrists and neck.

Can I put it directly on my pillow?

Put it on a tissue or cotton pad on the pillow rather than the fabric itself — oils can mark bedding.

Does it actually help you sleep?

Lavender is the most widely used oil in evening routines and many people find the ritual itself settling. We do not make medical claims about insomnia or anxiety.

Is ylang ylang too strong?

It is intense on its own. Use it at roughly one part ylang ylang to three parts lavender until you find your level.

Can I use these while pregnant?

Speak to your doctor first. Several oils are commonly avoided in pregnancy, and general advice cannot replace medical advice for your situation.
